Mallikarjun S Sankanagoudar, who worked as Kannada actor Darshan‘s manager between 2011 and 2018, has finally opened up about the reason behind his absconding.
After 8 years of disappearance, the actor’s former manager has opened up about a difficult phase, which forced him to stay out of the limelight. On Thursday, Darshan’s former manager spoke at a press meet and shared how a massive financial crisis pushed him to the edge and forced him to disappear from his hometown for years.

Mallikarjun S Sankanagoudar revealed that he had taken loans amounting to over Rs 8 crore from nearly 20-23 people, according to a report in Vijay Karnataka. In his address, Mallikarjuna shared that the pressure to repay mounted and things spiralled out of control and he found himself completely helpless. The situation became so overwhelming that he even considered ending his life. However, he eventually stepped back from that decision and chose to leave everything behind instead.
According to him, even his wife was unaware of the loans initially. When she learned about the situation, the stress affected her deeply. At one point, both of them felt there was no way out. But a family event changed their course. They had to stop and think about their choice because of a wedding in his wife’s family. He described it as a moment where something within them stopped them from taking a drastic step.
Where was Mallikarjun staying for 8 years?
Soon after, in July 2018, Mallikarjun left Bengaluru without informing anyone about his whereabouts. Before leaving, he sent a message to those he owed money to, apologising and explaining that he was unable to repay them at that time. He then switched off his phone, discarded his SIM card, and cut off all contact.
He lived away from home for the next seven years, moving to cities like Kolhapur, Solapur, Nanded, Nagpur, and even Kashi. He worked in tourism, factories, real estate, and even hotels during this time to make ends meet. Even though he was away, he kept in touch with his family by writing letters to his wife and parents.
He said he was going through a very hard time in his life and that he would only come back when that time was over, which would end a long and painful chapter. He missed the last rites for his father, mother, grandmother, and even a close friend. The filmmaker also confessed that he still feels guilty and hurt that he wasn’t there for those times.
At the end, Mallikarjun told what made him go back to his family after being in hiding for eight years. He said that he thought he was going through a very hard time in his life and that he would only come back when that time was over, which would end a long and painful chapter.
