Serious allegations of sexual exploitation and harassment have come to light in the BPO unit of an IT company in Nashik, Maharashtra. At least 8 women employees have complained of sexual harassment, mental harassment and religious pressure that has been going on for many years. Police have so far registered 9 FIRs in this case.

According to Nashik Police Commissioner Sandeep Karnik, investigation has revealed that 7 male accused were working as a group and targeting female employees. He said that in most of the cases these accused are involved together, which indicates organized activity.
Arrest and role of accused
So far, 8 accused have been arrested, including 7 men and 1 woman, while another woman accused is absconding. According to the police, some of the accused held positions like team leaders and misused their position to harass their colleagues. A female accused, who is said to be the HR head, stopped the victim from filing the complaint and supported the accused.
Allegations of religious pressure also
The victims have also alleged that the employees were forced to eat certain types of food and participate in religious activities. A male employee has also alleged religious harassment and an attempt to forcibly convert.
NCW took suo motu cognizance
Taking suo motu cognizance of this matter, the National Commission for Women (NCW) has constituted a committee to investigate. This matter is said to be related to the Nashik-based BPO unit of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS).
On-site investigation on April 18
The NCW team will visit the spot on April 18 and take stock of the situation. The committee will talk to the victims, police and company officials and identify any kind of negligence.

The inquiry panel has been asked to submit its report within 10 working days. Besides, necessary recommendations will also be given to strengthen the safety of women and prevent such incidents.
