Cop dadi suspended for tying 5-year-old granddaughter to gate in scorching heat in Punjab

Faridkot: A woman assistant sub-inspector (ASI) in Punjab’s Faridkot has been suspended after allegedly tying her five-year-old granddaughter to a gate and leaving her exposed to extreme heat. The incident came to light after a disturbing video of the child went viral on social media.

The clip showed the young girl crying uncontrollably, with her hands and feet bound to the gate using a cloth. The visuals triggered outrage online and prompted swift action from authorities.

Neighbours, who heard the child’s cries, intervened and rescued her. They also recorded the incident on camera, which later circulated widely on social media platforms.

According to police, the child’s parents currently live in Portugal and had left her in the care of her grandmother. The accused, identified as ASI Sarabjit Kaur, is posted as a Mahila Mitra at a women’s helpdesk in Faridkot.

The incident occurred at her residence in the Dogar Basti area.

ASI suspended

After the video went viral, Faridkot Senior Superintendent of Police Pragya Jain took immediate notice of the matter and ordered action against the officer.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Tarlochan Singh condemned the act, that despite being in the police force, the ASI took an unacceptable step by tying the child and leaving her in the scorching heat of the sun.

Kaur has been suspended.

Police said the matter has been referred to the Child Welfare Committee for further assessment and appropriate action regarding the child’s safety and well-being.

The case has raised serious concerns about child safety and the responsibilities of guardians, especially in situations where parents are residing abroad.
