Heat and humidity persist in Bengaluru despite cloudy skies, warmer days ahead

Bengaluru: The summer heat continues to intensify across Karnataka, with temperatures climbing to record levels in several districts. While many regions remain under scorching sunshine, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has indicated a possible arrival of pre-monsoon showers in select parts of the state, bringing some relief in the coming days.

Bengaluru weather today

In Bengaluru, the capital city, the maximum temperature is expected to hover between 35 degrees C and 37 degrees C. The city is likely to remain partly cloudy, but high humidity levels are expected to make conditions uncomfortable for residents.

The sun rose at 06:07 IST and set at 18:32 IST in Bengaluru. The moon will rise at 04:57 IST and set at 17:32 IST.

Bengaluru AQI

The city’s air quality index (AQI) is recorded at 94, as per Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The CPCB classifies AQI into six categories based on pollution levels. Good (0–50) indicates clean air, Satisfactory (51–100) is acceptable, Moderately Polluted (101–200) may cause minor discomfort, Poor (201–300) affects breathing, Very Poor (301–400) causes respiratory issues and Severe (401–500) is hazardous.

Temperature rising sharply

Several northern districts are witnessing extreme heat conditions. Kalaburagi is likely to record a maximum temperature of up to 42 degrees C, making it one of the hottest regions in the state. Hubballi-Dharwad may see temperatures around 39 degrees C, while Shivamogga and Mangaluru are also experiencing warm conditions.

Other districts such as Raichur, Ballari and Vijayapura are expected to cross the 40 degrees C mark. Authorities have advised residents to take precautions, especially during peak afternoon hours, to avoid heat-related illnesses.

Rainfall forecast

The IMD has forecast moderate rainfall in parts of Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan and Kodagu districts during the evening or night hours. Light showers may also occur in Mysuru and Mandya, offering brief respite from the ongoing heatwave-like conditions.

Coastal humidity impact

The coastal belt, including Mangaluru, Udupi and Karwar, will continue to experience hot and humid weather. Despite slightly lower temperatures compared to interior districts, high moisture levels are expected to add to discomfort.
