There is one such rare Shiva temple in a small town called ‘Oyal’ in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh. It is known as the only frog temple (Manduk Mandir) in the entire country.
The main attraction of this temple is its unique structure. When seen from outside, the entire temple looks in the shape of a huge frog. Architecturally, it is built on the back of a giant frog, which is sitting on the back of a giant crocodile. It was built in Rajasthani style under the guidance of the famous Tantrik Kapil of Meghalaya, based on the Tantrik ‘Manduk Yantra’. If devotees enter from the eastern gate, they can directly reach the sanctum sanctorum through the mouth of the frog. The Tantric style carvings on the outer walls of the temple reveal its historical mystery.

Shivalinga changes color with seasons
In this temple, the Shivalinga of Narmadeshwar Mahadev is situated on a very beautiful high marble rock. The biggest miracle here is that this rare Shivalinga brought from the Narmada river changes its color at different times of the day. Not only this, usually in all Shiva temples around the world Nandi is in a sitting posture, but here the statue of Nandi is in a standing posture. Such a rare scene is not seen anywhere else in India.
The frog changed the king’s fate
This temple has a long history of about 200 years. This area was ruled by the Chauhan dynasty from the 11th century to the 19th century. According to local beliefs, once there was a severe drought in this area and a divine frog blessed the king of the state, Bakht Singh. After this the king’s fortunes changed and the entire kingdom became prosperous. In Tantric scriptures, frog is considered a symbol of good luck, fertility and prosperity, hence the king built this temple in honor of that divine frog.
Special puja on Shivratri and Diwali
A grand festival is celebrated on Mahashivratri in this temple officially recognized by the Uttar Pradesh Tourism Department. Along with this, special Tantric pujas are also performed here on the festival of Diwali. Devotees strongly believe that if one sees Shiva on the back of a frog on these occasions, then all the troubles of life go away and one attains wealth.
