London: An Indian-origin woman working as a Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) in the United Kingdom lost her job after issues with English proficiency came to light. Sai Keerthana Sriperambuduru joined the York and Scarborough Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in October 2023.
She was dismissed in June 2024 after completing eight months of probation, although reports of her termination have only recently emerged.
According to reports, Sriperambuduru had stated in her application that English was her first language and hence, there was no need to prove her proficiency in the language. However, within weeks of joining, colleagues noticed she struggled to communicate effectively with both patients and staff.
