IPL game in Australia: Currently the 19th season of IPL is being played in India. Meanwhile, a big report has come out regarding the next season of IPL. IPL matches can now be played in Australia also. Adelaide Oval chairman Jamie Briggs and South Australian Cricket Association (SACA) chief Will Rayner are preparing a big plan. However, no formal proposal has been sent to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) yet.
Will IPL matches be played in Australia?
According to reports, Adelaide Oval is planning to host an IPL match in March 2027. This could be the first big step towards taking IPL to Australian soil. The proposal also mentions a reciprocal arrangement, in which a match of the Big Bash League (BBL) can be played in Chennai. This proposal is also showing interest from big people like South Australian Premier Peter Malinauskas, Federal Trade Minister Don Farrell, Cricket Australia Chairman Mike Baird and CEO Todd Greenberg. Tourism South Australia has also expressed initial support. But the final decision is completely in the hands of BCCI.
On the other hand, the time of March is being chosen because during that time the weather is good for cricket and there is also free space in the Australian cricket schedule. At the same time, Adelaide Oval is known for its excellent facilities. The organizers believe that due to the IPL match, the stadium will fill up quickly, tourism will get a boost and there will be a huge crowd of fans. If the proposal is approved, it could prove to be a new chapter in the international expansion of IPL.
When was IPL played outside India?
Although the Indian Premier League (IPL) is played in India only, but till now on some occasions due to reasons like security, elections and epidemic, IPL has been played outside India also. In 2009, due to the Lok Sabha elections in India, the entire season was played in South Africa. In the year 2014 also, due to the Lok Sabha elections, the first phase was held in UAE. Then in 2020, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the entire season took place in UAE. Apart from this, in the year 2021, the second phase of IPL was shifted to UAE.
