Why Samrat Choudhary is the preferred choice for BJP as Bihar’s next CM? Here’s what experts say

New Delhi: In a significant development in Bihar, Nitish Kumar resigned as the state’s Chief Minister of Bihar, after being at the helm for around two decades. Samrat Choudhary is replacing him as the CM, who was named as the Bihar BJP’s legislative party leader.

Before being named the next Chief Minister of Bihar, Samrat Choudhary served as Nitish Kumar’s deputy for a few years and has emerged as one of the prominent faces of the BJP in recent years in Bihar.

Samrat Chowdhary to be first BJP CM in Bihar

Talking about his elevation, senior journalist Faizan Ahmad, while speaking to News 9, said, “It is a big day for the BJP. Samrat Chowdhary will be the first BJP Chief Minister in the state. There were a lot of speculations on his name. But other names were also making the rounds. Everybody knew it would be Samrat Choudhary, as the party has very limited faces in Bihar, who could be projected as the leader of the BJP’s legislative party”.

“He will stake a claim to form the government after meeting the governor. He will take the oath at 11 AM tomorrow. There will be a new era in Bihar. Nitish created history by serving Bihar as CM for the longest time after Sri Krishna Sinha. Possibly nobody will be able to break this record of 19 years and 227 days. BJP has very few faces who are acceptable to all party members and who are popular among party workers and people. His selection was very natural,” he added further.

‘BJP wants to continue with the Luv Kush formula’

Brijesh Pandey, Input Editor, News 9, said, “BJP wants to continue with the Luv Kush formula. This is one of the things that made BJP to choose him as he had been the Deputy CM under Nitish Kumar. He also fits the BJP’s caste calculations.”

“His name was among those that Nitish Kumar also agreed upon. Nitish Kumar reportedly got upset when other names were gong rounds. There is no need for the BJP to experiment at this time. He is also a very strong leader in the party.”
