On September 15, PM Modi will lay the foundation stone of the Kosi-Mechi Link Project. This will irrigate 2.15 lakh hectares and will help in flood control. It is also part of the NDA’s election strategy.
Patna: Every year, a big relief has come to light about the Kosi river, which has come to wreak havoc in Bihar every year. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to give a historic gift on 15 September for the people struggling with this river called “Mourning of Bihar” for a long time. During the Prime Minister’s proposed Purnia tour, the foundation stone of the Kosi-Machi Link Project will be laid, which will provide major irrigation facilities to the farmers along with control over floods.
2.15 lakh hectare additional irrigation capacity will be developed
A high -level meeting was held between the Central and the State Government recently in the state hangar of Patna Airport. In this, Union Water Power Minister C.R. Patil, Union Minister of State Rajbhushan Chaudhary and Bihar’s Water Resources Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary held a detailed discussion about the project. Santosh Kumar Mall, Principal Secretary of the department presented a detailed blueprint of the project. According to officials, this scheme will develop about 2.15 lakh hectares of additional irrigation capacity. Also, the revival of the eastern main canal and the Matchi River will be expanded in 41 km length.
Flood control plan
The main objective of this project is to control the destruction of floods by turning the additional water of Kosi river in the Mechi river at the time of floods. This will provide relief to millions of people every year. Also, the availability of water for agriculture will increase, which will also increase the income of farmers. This scheme will pave the way for both relief and development for Bihar, struggling with flood problem.
Ministers conducted an aerial survey
After the meeting, the Union Ministers took an aerial survey and reviewed the points related to the project. Apart from this, the Western Kosi Canal Restore and Bagmati embankment project were also considered. With this, big steps will be taken to strengthen the flood security system and protect life and property during the disaster.
Part of election strategy
Financial bottlenecks have been a major challenge in the way of this project so far. The Nitish Sarkar has been demanding funding in the ratio of 90:10 from the Center for a long time. But now the possibility of the project starting after the intervention of the central government has increased considerably. Political experts are considering it as a part of development as well as election strategy. It is believed that before the elections, efforts are being made to win the trust of the people by giving relief to the flood affected areas of Bihar.
