It is described in Padma Purana that once Lord Brahma had organized a Mahayagya in Pushkar for the welfare of the universe. According to the scriptures, it is mandatory for the wife to accompany any Yagya, otherwise the full results of that Yagya are not achieved. But during the auspicious time of Yagya, Mother Savitri was not present there and the time of Yagya was passing. For this reason, Lord Brahma married a local girl, Gayatri, present there and started the Yagya with her.
