According to Drik Panchang, this year the Adhik month falling in Jyeshtha will start from the Pratipada date of Shukla Paksha of Jyeshtha month on 17th May. This Adhik month will end on 15th June, on the day of Jyeshtha Amavasya. This month has been dedicated to the worship of Lord Vishnu, the protector of the world.
reason for heavy periods
Adhik Maas is considered to be directly related to the movement of the Sun and Moon. The lunar year is 354 days and the solar year is 365 days. In such a situation, every year there is a difference of 11 days between the lunar and solar years. In three years this difference becomes equal to approximately 1 month (33 days). To balance this difference, an additional month is added to the calendar every third year. This is called Adhik Maas or Purushottam Maas.
Why is Adhik Maas called Purushottam Maas?
According to mythology, since it was Malmas, no god wanted to become the lord of this extra month. Then Lord Vishnu gave his name to this month and he became its master. Lord Vishnu is also called by the name ‘Purushottam’. That is why it came to be known as Purushottam month. The worship and religious rituals performed in this month yield immense results.
