New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a record prize money pool for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026, which is scheduled to begin in England and Wales on June 12. The tournament has been expanded to 12 teams with England, Sri Lanka, Australia, Bangladesh, India, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Pakistan, Scotland, South Africa and the West Indies, competing in the 33 matches.
Hosts England, Ireland, Scotland, New Zealand, Sri Lanka and West Indies are placed in Group B, while Group A include Australia, India, Pakistan and South Africa, Bangladesh and the Netherlands.
Record prize money
The total prize money pool for the upcoming Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 has been increased to USD 8,764,615 (Rs 81.8 crore), marking a 10% rise from the 2024 tournament. The figure has surpassed the prize pool of the previous edition, which was USD7,958,077 and shared among the 10 participants in 2024.
The winners will receive USD 2,340,000 (Rs 21.8 crore), while the runners-up will get USD 1,170,000 (Rs 10 crore approx). The losing semi-finalists will receive USD 675,000 (Rs 6.29 crore each), and every group-stage win will earn teams US$31,154 (Rs 29 lakh). All 12 competing teams are guaranteed a minimum prize pot of USD 247,500 (Rs 2.31 crore).
“The growth of women’s cricket continues to accelerate, and the expansion of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to 12 teams, combined with a record prize pool, underlines our commitment to building a stronger, more competitive global game,” the ICC CEO Sanjog Gupta said in a statement.
He further added that the continued rise of women’s cricket due to increased investment and opportunity reflected the impact of female athletes on the global stage.
“With that same momentum building across every aspect of women’s cricket, this event is shaping up to not only set a host of new attendance and viewing records in the sports and media ecosystems but also leave a lasting impact on the wider socio-cultural landscape across the world,” he added.
England will face Sri Lanka in the opening match of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 at Edgbaston in Birmingham on June 12.
