Sachin Tendulkar in tears as he pays tribute to Asha Bhosle during her last rites in Mumbai

New Delhi: Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar was seen breaking down in tears as he paid his tribute to the late Asha Bhosle during her funeral in Mumbai on Monday. Tendulkar was among several notable personalities who arrived at the legendary singer’s home to attend her last rites.

Bhosle, one of the most iconic voices of Indian cinema, passed away in Mumbai on Sunday after suffering multiple organ failure following a cardiac arrest. Sachin, who shared a strong personal bond with Bhosle and her family, attended her last rites with his wife, Anjali Tendulkar.

In a clip shared by the news agency PTI on social media, Sachin was seen in tears during a conversation with a member of Bhosle’s family, alongside his wife. The moment highlighted the close bond that the legendary cricketer shared with the late singer. Bhosle often referred to Sachin as her son and was recently present at the wedding of former India cricketer’s son, Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai.

On Sunday, Sachin took to X to pay tribute to the legendary singer after her demise. Calling Bhosle her family, the former Indian cricketer said it was a sad day for music lovers in India and across the globe. Sachin said Bhosle will remain timeless, thanks to her melodious voice and memorable songs that will continue to entertain her fans in the future.

“A deeply sad day for India, and for music lovers across the world. For us, Asha Tai was family. Today, words feel too small for the loss we feel. One moment the heart falls silent, and the next, it drifts through the countless melodies she gifted all of us,” Sachin wrote on X.

“It feels as though time itself has paused. Yet through her eternal songs, she will remain timeless forever. Thank you, Tai, for filling our lives with warmth, grace, and unforgettable music. We will miss you beyond words, Asha Tai,” he added.

Several other former and current Indian cricketers also paid tribute to the legendary singer with social media posts. Team India star Virat Kohli said Bhosle’s voice touched millions of hearts and that she will remain in the hearts of her fans forever. Former India all-rounder Yuvraj Singh also paid tribute to the iconic singer.

A minute’s silence was observed at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai in Bhosle’s honour on Sunday, ahead of the IPL 2026 match between Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
