New Delhi: In central China, an unique protest by an woman employee has triggered a heated debate among the netizens online.
How did the employee protest?
The employee has show her disgruntlement with her salary by bewilderingly sleeping at her desk for five hours. The South China Morning Post has reported that in Shangqiu, an employee felt aggrieved by her salary and thought she was undervalued at her company. She reportedly believed her salary did not reflect that effort she put in her work and decided to reduce her office output in protest.
She slept during office hours, and later explained, “You get what you pay for.” When her boss found her asleep, he scolded and warned her of termination if the action is repeated. The woman posted a tearful video online defending her actions, referring to unfair treatment meted out to her and wad firm on her unique protest to highlight inadequate pay.
How did the situation aggravate?
She stated that she does not want to quit and wanted to make a point about workplace compensation. However, she did not just sleep but also took a chocolate snack from her boss’s desk after waking up. Her boss has glucose intolerance, and almost reportedly collapsed due to the missing snack which could have restored his sugar levels in time.
The woman said in the video, “My boss became enraged. He said I meant to kill him. He gave me a warning, threatening to fire me. For those who criticise me, you do not understand people like me who have such a low salary.” Her video and the entire incident has become rapidly viral across social media platforms in China, and many users, while acknowledging the problem of low salary, have criticised her deliberate neglect of work responsibilities. Many users also commented that taking a colleague’s food crossed professional boundaries.
