BCCI sent notice to Rajasthan Royals manager Romi Bhinder for using phone in the dugout. Citing serious health issues, he said he could not even go to the dressing room, where phones are allowed. The team expects a humane decision.

Guwahati: A new revelation has come to light regarding Rajasthan Royals team manager Romi Bhinder’s use of mobile phone in the dugout during the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL. When BCCI’s anti-corruption unit sent a notice to Romi Bhinder in this matter, it came to light that the reason for breaking the rules was a serious health problem.

This incident was captured on camera during the match held in Guwahati on Friday. It showed that Romi Bhinder was sitting in the dugout of Rajasthan and using the phone. Young player Vaibhav Suryavanshi was also seen curiously peeking into his phone. According to BCCI rules, the team manager is allowed to use the phone only in the dressing room. Players and support staff have to deposit their phones and smart watches with the security officer as soon as they arrive at the stadium. There was a complaint that Romi had broken this rule.

But, sources close to Romi Bhinder have said that she had kept the phone with herself due to serious health problems. Some time ago, both of Romi’s lungs had stopped working and she had to stay on a ventilator for a week. He was admitted in a hospital in Nagpur for about a month. Due to this disease his weight also reduced by 10 kg. He also has asthma, so doctors have forbidden him from walking long distances or climbing stairs. To go from the dugout to the dressing room, one has to walk about 50 feet and then climb 20 stairs. According to reports, it was difficult for him because he was physically weak, so he sat in the dugout and checked his phone.

Sources close to Bhinder also said that he was neither making nor receiving any calls on the phone, but was just scrolling. He says that being the team manager, Romi is fully aware of the rules, but keeping his health in mind, he had kept the phone nearby.

In this matter, BCCI has issued notice to Romi Bhinder and given her time to present her side. Rajasthan Royals camp hopes that BCCI will take a humane decision considering Bhinder’s medical reports and health condition. After this incident, the question is also being raised whether there should be some relaxation in the safety rules of IPL for the players or support staff suffering from injuries and health problems.
