Ryan Mountcastle of the Baltimore Orioles Placed on Injured List Due to Foot Injury

BALTIMORE (AP) – Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle has sustained a broken fourth metatarsal bone in his left foot, resulting in his placement on the injured list.

Manager Craig Albernaz expressed the team’s disappointment following Baltimore’s 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, noting that he could not provide a timeline for Mountcastle’s recovery.

Details of the Injury

Mountcastle experienced pain in his left foot during Saturday’s game after stumbling while running from first base to second on a double. The 29-year-old has recorded a batting average of .286 with one RBI over eight games this season, sharing time at first base with Pete Alonso.

Mountcastle’s Previous Season

Last season, Mountcastle was limited to 89 games, missing over two months due to a strained right hamstring. He concluded the 2022 season with a batting average of .250, hitting seven home runs and driving in 35 runs.

Other Injuries on the Team

In addition to Mountcastle, catcher Adley Rutschman has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to left ankle inflammation. Albernaz mentioned there was some positive news regarding Rutschman following his MRI exam.

Outfielder Tyler O’Neill is also currently on the injured list due to a concussion, further impacting the Orioles’ roster.
