According to media reports, the victim, a resident of Prayagraj, was married to Himanshu Dubey of Anand Nagar area of ​​Kanpur in 2020. Himanshu works as an IT manager in a shoe company, while his father Sushil Dubey has retired as a clerk in the railway department.

The victim alleged that her in-laws were demanding huge dowry from her since the time of her marriage. Which included two bighas of land and Rs 20 lakh in cash. She alleged that whenever she protested and refused to meet these demands, she was subjected to beatings, ill-treatment and mental torture.

The woman said that her father-in-law Sushil Dubey, mother-in-law Rama, brother-in-law Abhishek and sister-in-law Shruti together tortured her. A few days ago the victim had gone to her maternal home. On Friday, around 2 pm, she returned to her in-laws house with her brother Hrishikesh Pandey and sister-in-law Preeti Pandey.

She alleged that as soon as she knocked the door and entered Sushil Dubey became angry, started abusing and attacked her without any provocation. The victim said that her father-in-law threw her on the ground and beat her mercilessly by kicking and punching her. She alleged that after this he tore her clothes and attacked her private parts.

The victim woman said that when people from the neighborhood tried to intervene, she told that her father-in-law threatened to kill her too. She further alleged that he grabbed her hair and dragged her from inside the house to the road. During the incident the woman kept shouting, “Save me… they will kill me.”

The victim said her five-year-old daughter was present in the house and witnessed the attack. She also alleged that her in-laws were plotting to murder her and that she was being kept under house arrest. She reported that she suffered severe injuries on several parts of her body, but the family did not provide her with any medical treatment.

The woman lodged a complaint with the police, but initially no concrete action was taken. On receiving information about the incident, ACP Chakeri Abhishek Kumar Pandey took cognizance of the matter and lodged an FIR and one accused was arrested.
