Among those expressing grief was Salman Khan, who described her demise as a “huge loss for Indian music.” The iconic playback singer passed away at the age of 92 after being admitted to Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital due to extreme exhaustion and a severe chest infection. Her family confirmed the news earlier today (April 12). Asha Bhosle’s death marks the end of an era that shaped generations of Indian cinema and music.

Taking to social media, Salman Khan shared a heartfelt message mourning the loss. He wrote that it is a “huge loss for Indian music” and stating how heartbroken he was to hear about Asha Bhosle’s passing. Calling her voice “irreplaceable,” Salman added that her songs will continue to inspire generations.

Asha Bhosle, a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, was widely regarded as one of the most versatile and celebrated singers in Indian music history. With a career spanning decades, she lent her voice to thousands of songs across multiple genres, leaving behind a legacy that remains unparalleled.

Following her demise, her mortal remains were brought to her residence, Casa Grande in Lower Parel, Mumbai. Family members, close friends, and members of the industry gathered to pay their respects as preparations for her final rites began. Her son, Anand Bhosle, confirmed that the public would be allowed to pay their last respects between 11 am and 3 pm before the funeral.

The final rites are scheduled to take place at Mumbai’s Shivaji Park crematorium at 4 pm. Notably, her elder sister, the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, was also cremated at the same venue. Maharashtra State Cabinet Minister Ashish Shelar confirmed that Asha Bhosle will be accorded full state honours. As a Padma Vibhushan awardee, her funeral will include a national flag-draped casket and ceremonial gun salutes.
