Riteish Deshmukh Postpones Raja Shivaji Anthem ‘Chhatrapati’ To Honour Veteran Singer Asha Bhosle’s Demise

The passing of legendary singer Asha Bhosle at the age of 92 on April 12, 2026, has left the nation and the film industry in deep sorrow.

She breathed her last at Breach Candy Hospital after battling multiple organ failure. As tributes pour in from across the country, the film industry has also taken a pause. Amid this, Riteish Deshmukh postponed his upcoming film Raja Shivaji’s anthem Chhatrapati as a Mark of Respect for the legendary singer.

Raja Shivaji Anthem Release Put On Hold After Asha Bhosle’s Demise

In a heartfelt gesture, Riteish Deshmukh and the team of the film Raja Shivaji have postponed the release of the much-awaited anthem ‘Chhatrapati.’ The song was earlier scheduled to be released on April 13, the same day as the singer’s last rites.

The makers decided to delay the launch to honour the legendary artist and her immense contribution to Indian music.

Sharing the update on X, Jio Studios released a statement explaining the decision.

“The voice that ruled our hearts for decades has fallen silent today. With the passing of the legendary Asha Bhosle, we mourn the loss of a golden chapter in music. As a mark of respect, we are postponing the release of the Raja Shivaji anthem, ‘Chhatrapati.’ A new date will be announced soon.” The team emphasised that the delay is a tribute to the singer’s legacy.

About Raja Shivaji

Raja Shivaji is a historical drama based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the founder of the Maratha Empire. The film is co-written and directed by Riteish Deshmukh and produced by Genelia Deshmukh and Jyoti Deshpande.

The cast includes Riteish in the lead role, alongside Genelia as Saibai, with actors like Sanjay Dutt, Abhishek Bachchan, Mahesh Manjrekar, Sachin Khedekar, Vidya Balan, Bhagyashree, Fardeen Khan, Jitendra Joshi and Amole Gupte.
