IPL 2026: Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar go berserk to propel RCB to 240/4 against Mumbai Indians

New Delhi: Phil Salt and Rajat Patidar played outstanding knocks as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) produced another dominant performance with the bat in their clash against the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, in the IPL 2026 on Sunday. Salt scored 78 off 36 balls before RCB skipper Patidar hammered 53 off just 20 balls to power RCB to a huge total of 240/4 in 20 overs.

Virat Kohli also continued his prolific run with a 38-ball 50, while Tim David once again shone in the finisher’s role with a cameo of an unbeaten 16-ball 34 to play his part in RCB’s domination at the Wankhede. The Mumbai Indians will have to pull off a record chase to beat the defending champions and snap their two-match losing streak in the IPL 2026.

Asked to bat first in the game, RCB got off to a flyer, courtesy of Salt and Kohli, who shared a brilliant 120-run stand for the first wicket. Salt got off to a strong start in the Powerplay before going berserk against Mitchell Santner in the 5th over.

He smashed the left-arm spinner for three sixes in a row and followed it up with a four to help RCB get 22 runs off the over. There was no stopping Salt after that as he helped RCB get 71 runs off the Powerplay and raced to his fifty off just 25 balls. Kohli played the perfect second-fiddle, punishing the loose deliveries whenever he got a chance.

Salt continued his onslaught against Mayank Markande after the Powerplay, hitting the spinner for three fours in a row and a six in the 8th over to get 20 runs from it. Salt was going all guns blazing and moving towards a century, when Shardul Tahkur got him caught at extra cover to send him back on 78. Salt’s 78 off 36 balls was laced with six sixes and as many fours.
