‘TMC will have to account for every penny”: PM Modi attacks Bengal govt in Siliguri rally

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed a public rally in Siliguri on Sunday and criticised the Trinamool Congress government over its 15-year rule in West Bengal. He accused the Mamata Banerjee-led administration of promoting corruption, political violence, and fear among citizens. He said opposition workers faced threats and attacks, and in some cases lost their lives.

He said the situation in the state had crossed limits and called for change. He said, “Bengal will no longer tolerate this,” as he urged people to support a political shift in the upcoming elections.

BJP promises accountability after elections

At the rally, PM Modi issued a direct warning to the ruling party and said it would be held accountable for its actions. He said, “TMC people, listen carefully. After May 4, a BJP government will be formed. And TMC will have to give an account of every moment of the last 15 years. They will have to account for every penny. For North Bengal, TMC’s policy has always been to threaten, create fear, keep people frightened and neglect them. Those who speak against TMC face political violence, they are threatened, intimidated, and party workers are even killed. But friends, enough is enough. Bengal will not tolerate this anymore. No more. The BJP’s mantra is ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ but in Bengal the BJP formula will be ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, and full accountability for TMC’s looters,” he said.

Remarks on Siliguri corridor and national security

PM Modi also raised concerns about national unity and security. He accused the TMC of encouraging divisive elements and referred to the Siliguri corridor, which connects the Northeast to the rest of India. He said, “The Tukde-tukde gang had threatened to snap the Siliguri corridor and the TMC rewarded them by sending them to Parliament. Centre is working for the development of the Siliguri corridor, which serves as a gateway to the Northeast.”

Focus on women safety and law enforcement

On women’s safety, Modi spoke about crimes against women in the state and said stronger systems would be introduced. He promised dedicated police support for women and faster justice delivery. He also said a special commission may be set up to investigate political violence.

He added that strict action would be taken against those involved in criminal networks and mafia activities if BJP forms the government.
