Asha Bhosale passes away at 93, music world mourns end of an era

New Delhi: Veteran singer Asha Bhosale has passed away at the age of 93, marking the end of a remarkable chapter in Indian music. With a career spanning over seven decades, her voice shaped generations and defined countless melodies across languages.

She reportedly suffered a heart attack on Saturday evening and was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital. Though doctors were monitoring her condition, she passed away due to organ failure.

Her son, Anand Bhosale, confirmed the news. He stated that her mortal remains will be kept at her Lower Parel residence for final respects from 11 am on Sunday. The last rites will take place at 4 pm at Shivaji Park.

Born in 1933, Asha Bhosale recorded over 12,000 songs in multiple languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil and Telugu. Her iconic tracks such as Dum Maro Dum and Ramaiya Vastavaiya remain timeless favourites.

Fondly known as ‘Asha Tai’, she was celebrated for her versatility, expressive singing style and unmatched energy. With her passing, Indian cinema and the music industry have lost one of their greatest voices.
