Mesh Sankranti 2026: The festival of Sankranti is associated with Lord Sun. Whenever Sun God enters from one zodiac sign to another, that day is celebrated as Sankranti. The festival of Aries Sankranti is going to be celebrated in this month. There is a tradition to perform special worship of Sun on the festival of Sankranti. There is a religious belief that by worshiping on this day, the Sun gives blessings of health and happy life.
Offering Arghya to Sun God on the festival of Sankranti increases respect in the society and also removes obstacles in career and job. On the auspicious day of Aries Sankranti, you should offer Arghya to the Sun God. The method of offering Arghya to the Sun is described in the scriptures, hence while offering Arghya, keep the method and some special things in mind. Otherwise the entire fruit of the puja will be destroyed.
When is Aries Sankranti 2026?
This year, on April 14, the Sun will move out of Pisces and enter Aries. On this day, Sun will enter Aries at 09:38 am. In such a situation, the festival of Aries Sankranti will be celebrated on 14th April. Kharmas will also end on this day.
Method of offering Arghya to Sun God
On Aries Sankranti, wake up early in the morning before sunrise, take bath and wear clean clothes. After this, take pure water in a copper pot and add some Roli, red colored flowers and Akshat in it. Then stand facing east and hold the pot with both hands and take it above your head. Have darshan of Sun God through the falling stream of water.
While offering water, keep chanting the mantra “Om Suryay Namah” or “Om Ghrini Suryay Namah” continuously. After offering water, stand at your place and circumambulate three times. At the end, salute the Sun God with folded hands and pray for happiness and prosperity.
Take special care of these things
While offering Arghya, take care that water does not splash on your feet. While offering Arghya, keep an empty pot or vessel below. Always use only a copper pot to offer Arghya to the Sun. On Aries Sankranti, take bath in holy rivers like Ganga etc. If it is not possible to do this, then take bath at home by adding Ganga water to the water.
