Mahindra and Mahindra has moved to allay customer concerns over the impact of E20 fuel on its existing lineup of cars and SUVs. The company confirmed that it will continue to honour warranty commitments for all vehicles, regardless of when they were manufactured, even if customers are using E20.
The clarification comes amid growing apprehension among vehicle owners after the nationwide rollout of 20% ethanol-blended petrol at fuel stations. Many motorists had raised doubts about whether the new fuel mix could affect engine performance, efficiency, or even void manufacturer warranties.
In its statement, Mahindra underlined that all its petrol engines are fully compliant with current fuel standards and are safe to operate with E20. The automaker explained that vehicles manufactured after April 1, 2025, have been specifically calibrated for E20 to ensure smooth performance, while older models may experience slight variations in acceleration or fuel efficiency depending on driving conditions. Importantly, these differences do not compromise vehicle safety.
“Mahindra engines are compliant with existing gasoline norms and can be safely used with E20 fuel,” the company noted. “While earlier vehicles may show minor differences in performance, all warranty obligations remain fully valid.”
The automaker also reiterated its support for India’s biofuel and sustainability initiatives, highlighting its track record of adapting to government-led transitions in the energy and automotive space.
Mahindra’s move comes at a critical time, as the E20 mandate has already been implemented across fuel stations in the country. By addressing warranty concerns, the company aims to reassure its large customer base and ensure confidence in the shift towards cleaner fuels.
