The police launched a major operation after credible intelligence indicated that they engaged in criminal activities and were addicted to narcotics.
Rowdy sheeters with criminal records:
They identified approximately 1,300 rowdy sheeters under the jurisdiction of various police stations throughout the city. After their movements were monitored, the police gathered all of them at a single location to provide counseling and in an unexpected move, conducted drug tests. At least 190 of them tested positive.
The police have identified that the majority of those who tested positive for drugs are individuals with criminal records are addicted to marijuana.
An investigation is underway into the source of massive quantities of Ganja being supplied to known rowdy-sheeters, as well as the identities of the key drug peddlers behind this operation.
Reports suggest that similar tests will be conducted on the remaining rowdy sheeters as well.
