Hyderabad: Scooter stolen three months ago; thief arrested after challan on CCTV

Hyderabad: A post on social media platform X helped Hyderabad Police find a two-wheeler vehicle, which was stolen three months ago.

An individual identified as Faisal Rahman, on April 7, posted that he received a challan for a scooty that was stolen three months ago, for which he registered an FIR at Habeeb Nagar police station.

“Today, I received a traffic challan for the same vehicle, and the image clearly shows the thief’s face,” he said while tagging Hyderabad Traffic Police and city police. The post came after he was frustrated by police silence and shared a picture of traffic challan of his stolen scooty. It was a high resolution image of the stolen vehicle, which also showed the face of the rider clearly. The rider did not have a helmet on.

Special team dispatched to the scene of theft:

The post quickly went viral and officials responded saying that the matter is already under investigation and expressed concerns that the social media post could alert the suspect and make tracing him more difficult.

After the post went viral, special police teams were dispatched to verify the CCTV footage and find the vehicle. On Thursday, police found the scooty and arrested the rider. After the vehicle was found, Rahman thanked police officials in a follow-up post.

“Our Friendly Police Are Truly Outstanding. Our stolen vehicle has been recovered. Thank you for your quick support and action,” he said.

Hyderabad Traffic Police wrote, “the team of SHO Habeeb Nagar apprehended the bike and rider and brought them to the police station and initiated further legal action.”
