Vijay to address rally in Karaikudi as police impose 37 conditions for campaign

Sivaganga: Preparations for the Legislative Assembly elections are proceeding in full swing across Tamil Nadu, with voting scheduled for April 23. Today, TVK leader Vijay is conducting a campaign tour in Sivaganga district to support the party’s candidates contesting in the four constituencies of Sivaganga, Karaikudi, Tiruppattur, and Manamadurai.

Vijay campaign schedule and route

Departing from Madurai Airport this morning, Vijay is expected to arrive in Karaikudi at 11:30 AM, traveling via Melur and Tiruppattur. Starting from the Karaikudi Bus Stand, he will travel in an open van—passing through VOC Road, Kazhanivasal, and the Water Tank area—up to the Thevar statue, seeking public support along the route. He will conduct his campaign in front of the Thevar statue, located opposite the Karaikudi Corporation Office, between 12:00 PM and 2:30 PM.

Police conditions

The police have granted permission for Vijay’s campaign, subject to 37 specific conditions. The campaign must be concluded between 12:30 PM and 2:00 PM today. A condition has been imposed stipulating that Vijay must return via the exact same route he took to arrive.

Security arrangements

Anticipating that a large number of Vijay’s fans are likely to gather to catch a glimpse of him, the trees, transformers, and electric poles near the Thevar statue have been enclosed with iron sheets to prevent people from climbing onto them. The Karaikudi Traffic Police have made arrangements to divert vehicles arriving from the Madurai, Dindigul, and Tirupattur regions onto alternative routes.

Electoral context

Voting in Tamil Nadu is set for April 23, with a four-way electoral battle involving the DMK, AIADMK, TVK, and NTK prevailing across the state. All political parties are actively engaged in intensive election work, with promises and campaigning dominating the discourse as the political landscape sizzles with activity.
