The Union Territory has recorded a historic voter turnout of 89.08 percent in the single-phase Legislative Assembly elections held today. Voting commenced at 7:00 AM and concluded at 5:00 PM, with citizens across all four regions of Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahe, and Yanam standing in long queues and enthusiastically casting their votes.

In this 2026 Assembly election, the ruling alliance comprising the N.R. Congress and the BJP is locked in a political battle on one side, while the INDIA alliance including the Congress and the DMK stands on the other. Issues such as unemployment, the demand for statehood, tourism development, and the privatization of the power sector remained the primary talking points throughout this election.
