Akshay Oberoi recently made surprising remarks about his bond with his cousin Vivek Oberoi. The Fighter actor, in an interview, expressed deep regret about having ‘no real relationship’ with Vivek.
He even revealed that his and the actor’s families never really got along. Now, speaking to a news publication, the Saathiya actor has broken his silence over Akshay’s remarks. For the unversed, Vivek’s father, Suresh Oberoi and Akshay’s father, Krishnan Oberoi, are brothers.

In an interview with Hindustan Times, Vivek recalled asking Akshay what his interview was about. That’s when the Fighter actor told his cousin that his remarks had been misinterpreted. However, the Saathiya actor feels that it’s best that Akshay speaks for himself.
Vivek went on to reveal that he adores Akshay. “We are always there at each other’s birthdays, Diwali or parents’ anniversaries. We have some great memories of growing up together,” he said, and added that their family interactions have been warm.
The actor further reflected on how he and Akshay carved their careers independently. “Every bit of success and acclaim he has is well deserved, because he is the only one responsible for it. It shouldn’t be because of whose nephew or cousin you are; it should be based on pure merit. Akshay has achieved everything on his own merit and I am very proud of it,” added Vivek.
Akshay Oberoi on ‘no real relationship’ with Vivek
Earlier, while speaking to The Free Press Journal, Akshay revealed that nobody knew he and Vivek were related. The actor mentioned that he never used their relation as benefit. “It’s not like I could call and approach him either. Unfortunately, I don’t say it with pride, I say it with sadness – that there was no real relationship. So, what would I call and ask him? I just went about my own way,” he shared.
