New Delhi: A chilling case of familial violence has emerged from Uttam Nagar in Delhi’s Dwarka district, where two brothers were found dead inside their apartment. The bodies of victims, Devender Kumar (50) and Amit (48), were discovered in their flat. Police have since arrested Devender’s son, Ishwar, (22) for the crime.
According to police, the murders were driven by financial greed. Devender, who worked with Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), had around Rs 50 lakh in his provident fund account. He often spoke about how the money and a government job on compassionate grounds would go to his son after his death. This reportedly influenced Ishwar’s actions.

Police said Ishwar wanted to quickly gain access to the money and secure the job. Believing his father and uncle were obstacles, he plotted their killings. During interrogation, he admitted to carrying out the crime for financial gain and opportunity.
On the night of April 3, Ishwar consumed alcohol with his father and uncle. In an intoxicated state, he deliberately picked a fight, which escalated into a violent assault. Although there were no major external injuries, post-mortem findings revealed severe internal injuries that caused their deaths.
The next day, suspicious neighbours and the landlord alerted the police. The bodies were found inside the flat, while Ishwar had fled the scene.
A police team led by DCP Kushal Pal Singh and ACP Sanjeev Kumar tracked down Ishwar. During questioning, he confessed to the crime, stating he acted out of greed and under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is underway to uncover further details.
