McLaren to reveal their big plan for comeback in summer

New Delhi: The future for McLaren hasn’t looked the brightest. Following the automaker’s sale in 2024 and the appointment of a new CEO the previous year, few big reveals have happened about the brand’s long-term direction. However, that could be changing in the coming months.

During an interaction with Autocar, McLaren CEO Nick Collins noted that the brand will “start to unpack” their major plans later this summer. Those plans will reportedly include an all-new lineup of combustion-powered sports cars and even one SUV, which has been rumoured for a long while now.

The announcement is expected to coincide with the commencement of deliveries for the W1 hypercar. Collins noted that in the summer, they will go public with their plans, irrespective of whether they are starting to deliver W1Ss or showing a product. The first vehicle in McLaren’s new lineup will debut as a concept before hitting production and should come up before the end of the year.

While the brand might not have confirmed specifications as of now, many reports look at what might be coming soon. McLaren has already committed to making new combustion sports cars, which might include a successor to the now ageing 750S. The carmaker has also expressed plans to expand “into new product categories” as per statements released last April. One of the big development of course, is the SUV, which internally is codenamed as “P47”.

The November report suggested that it will be a five-seat hybrid with a size comparable to the Porsche Cayenne Turbo GT.

In terms of a fully electric McLaren, likely, it isn’t the brand’s priority. Collins said that the brand will build an EV when its customers demand it, and the timing isn’t quite right for now. Details are expected to come in the latter part of this summer as well.
