You could be in a PlayStation game, Sony’s Playerbase is now live

New Delhi: PlayStation is trying something different this time. Instead of just releasing games and updates, it is inviting players to step inside the game itself. Yes, literally. The company has announced a new community program called The Playerbase, and it sounds like one of those ideas you hear and go, wait that is actually possible now.

Custom avatars in games are common; however, this feels like the next step. Real players, scanned into real games. It is a bit wild when you think about it.

What is PlayStation playerbase and how it works

Sony says, “We’re introducing ‘The Playerbase’, a unique opportunity for PlayStation’s biggest fans to step into some of the biggest game worlds by having their likeness scanned and appear within a PlayStation game.”

The first game to use this will be Gran Turismo 7. Players can apply online starting April 7 at 7:00 AM PT, which is around 7:30 PM IST.

After applications, a few finalists will be picked. Then comes interviews. And finally, one player gets selected to appear in the game.

What selected players will actually get

The chosen player will not just show up randomly. Their in-game presence will be designed carefully.

Sony explains that the selected fan will appear “as an in-game character portrait” and will also help design a custom Fantasy Logo and a unique vehicle livery.

They will even be invited to a visual arts studio in Los Angeles for a full scanning session. That part honestly feels like a dream trip for any gamer.

Where this program is available

Right now, the Playerbase is not open everywhere. Sony says it will be available in select markets across the Americas, Europe, Asia, South Africa, and Australia.

India is not clearly listed in the announcement, so availability here is still a bit unclear.

Why this move matters

Sony says this is about giving back to players. “The Playerbase is our way of saying thank you to the players who make PlayStation what it is today.”

From a gaming perspective, it feels like a shift. Games are no longer just something you play. Now you can be part of them, even if only a few players get that chance.
