Tamil Nadu Elections: ECI orders transfer of chief secretary Muruganandam IAS, Sandeep Mittal appointed as DGP

Chennai: With the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections scheduled to take place on April 23, the Election Commission of India has ordered the transfer of Chief Secretary N. Muruganandam. Senior IAS officer M. Saikumar has been appointed as the new Chief Secretary of Tamil Nadu, replacing Muruganandam.

Saikumar previously served as the Chairman and Managing Director of the Tamil Nadu Newsprint and Papers Limited (TNPL). He also served as the Private Secretary to former Chief Minister Edappadi Palaniswami. The Election Commission has issued a directive stating that this order must be implemented immediately, and a compliance report confirming that the officer has assumed charge must be submitted by the end of the evening.

Additionally, Davidson Asirvatham, who served as the Director General of Police for the Tamil Nadu Armed Police and the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption, has been transferred. Sandeep Mittal, IPS, has been appointed as the new DGP of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption and the Tamil Nadu Armed Police.

Prior to this, on April 2, Sandeep Rai Rathore had already been appointed as the Director General of Police for the Tamil Nadu Police Department. The Election Commission is actively engaged in making necessary arrangements for the smooth conduct of the elections.
