Chennai: The Chennai Meteorological Centre has forecast moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning in South Tamil Nadu, isolated pockets of North Coastal Tamil Nadu, and across the Puducherry and Karaikal regions today. Chennai is also expected to receive moderate rain in a few parts of the city, even as temperatures soared past 100 degrees Fahrenheit in 12 locations across the state yesterday.
Tamil Nadu weather forecast
According to the Meteorological Centre, light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder and lightning is likely today in South Tamil Nadu, isolated pockets of North Coastal Tamil Nadu, and the Puducherry and Karaikal regions, with dry weather expected in northern interior districts.
On April 9, similar conditions are forecast for the Western Ghats districts, South Tamil Nadu, isolated pockets of North Coastal Tamil Nadu, and Puducherry and Karaikal, with dry weather elsewhere. On April 10, light to moderate rain is likely in isolated pockets across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal.
On April 11 and 12, light to moderate rain is expected in isolated pockets of the Western Ghats districts, while light rain is likely in isolated pockets of the Delta districts and Karaikal region. Dry weather will prevail in the rest of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. The Meteorological Centre has indicated that there remains a possibility of rain until April 13.
Temperatures cross 100°F
The Meteorological Department reported that temperatures crossed the 100-degree Fahrenheit mark in 12 locations across Tamil Nadu yesterday. Vellore recorded the highest temperature at 108 degrees Fahrenheit. Scorching heat was also reported in Karur Paramathi, Erode, Namakkal, Tirupattur, and Dharmapuri. Temperatures exceeding 100 degrees Fahrenheit were recorded in Trichy, Thiruthani, Madurai, Palayamkottai, Madurai Airport, and Salem.
The combination of high temperatures and expected rainfall suggests a continued pattern of summer showers across parts of the state.
