Assembly Elections 2026: Final phase of campaigning in Assam, Kerala and Puducherry to end today ahead of April 9 polls

All campaigning activity for the upcoming high-stakes assembly elections in Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry will officially end on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. After weeks of intense political activity, today all the contesting political parties will make a last effort to woo voters across 140 constituencies in Kerala, 126 in Assam, and 30 in Puducherry.

The high-voltage campaigning draws to a close today as the polling is scheduled in a crucial single-phase on April 9. Amid this, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced that a 48-hour ‘Silent Period’ for the general election to the Assam legislative assembly will begin from 5 pm. As per Section 126 of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, every type of election activity, including rallies, public meetings, and processions, will be banned during this period.

Meanwhile, Congress escalated its campaign along with senior leader Kumari Selja against the BJP. Regional outfits such as Assam Jatiya Parishad, Asom Gana Parishad, and Raijor Dal also increased efforts to connect with voters during the final hours.

Kerala to enforce ‘silence period’ after campaigning ends

In Kerala, election authorities are set to implement strict regulations once campaigning for the upcoming state polls ceases this evening. Chief Electoral Officer Rathan U Kelkar announced that all campaigning related-activities must end by 6 pm.

Last-minute appeal to voters in Puducherry

In Puducherry, the last day of campaigning reflected the stakes involved. Senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, DMK chief M. K. Stalin, and Union Home Minister Amit Shah have all held rallies, trying to woo voters.

With campaigning ending today, attention has now shifted to election-day. Authorities across Assam, Kerala, and Puducherry are bracing for an orderly voting process on April 9.
