Tesla opens fifth supercharger site in India at Navi Mumbai

New Delhi: Tesla has opened a new Supercharger site in Navi Mumbai, marking its fifth such outlet in India. The location sits inside the underground parking of Nexus Seawoods mall. It is around 8km from the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport and about 30km from Mumbai’s existing airport.  The company says the spot was picked to support travel between Mumbai and Pune.

With this addition, Tesla is slowly building its charging network in the country, though it is still limited to a few major cities. As for its cars, Tesla currently sells only one model in the country, the Model Y. It is offered in Standard and Long Range versions, priced between Rs 59.89 lakh and Rs 67.89 lakh (ex-showroom).

Tesla now runs a total of 20 Superchargers across India. Alongside these, there are 14 Destination Chargers, which are slower 11kW AC units. Combined, the country has 34 Tesla-branded charging points at the moment.

Right now, these chargers are only available in Mumbai, Delhi and Gurugram. The company says these locations were selected based on customer demand and usage patterns. More installations are expected in the future, especially on busy routes connecting large cities like Bengaluru, Chennai and Chandigarh.

However, unlike some international markets, Tesla’s charging network in India is not open to other electric vehicles yet. Only Tesla owners can use these stations for now.

How much supercharging will cost?

Tesla charges Rs 24 per kWh at its Supercharger stations, which can deliver up to 250kW of power. The slower Destination Chargers cost Rs 14 per kWh to use. All these chargers are run by Tesla itself, and there’s no involvement of any third-party operators. Buyers also don’t get free charging with a new Tesla in India.
