Dexter Lawrence, a three-time Pro Bowl nose tackle, has requested a trade from the New York Giants and announced he will not participate in the team’s offseason workout program.
This information comes from three individuals familiar with the situation, who spoke on condition of anonymity.
Lawrence, who was selected by the Giants as the 17th overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, has spent all seven seasons of his career with the team. He is currently under contract for two more years, with earnings of $20 million and $19.5 million scheduled for the upcoming seasons.
Lawrence’s Career and Recent Performance
At 28 years old, Lawrence has faced challenges, including recovering from a dislocated left elbow sustained during a Thanksgiving game in 2024. Despite this injury, he started all 17 games last season but recorded a career-low of 31 tackles and a half-sack. His performance contributed to a defense that ranked 30th out of 32 teams in the league.
Throughout his career, Lawrence has amassed 341 tackles and 30.5 sacks over 109 regular-season games. He also made 12 additional tackles in two playoff appearances, showcasing his contributions to the team’s defensive efforts.
Giants’ Offseason Developments
The New York Giants began their spring workouts on Tuesday under the leadership of new head coach John Harbaugh. The team has also appointed Dennard Wilson as their new defensive coordinator. Following a disappointing season in which the Giants finished with a 4-13 record, they hold the fifth pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.
