ICC has released the nominations for March ‘Player of the Month’. India’s Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah have been nominated for their excellent performance in the T20 World Cup. Along with him, Connor Esterhuizen of South Africa is also involved in this race.
Dubai: After the historic victory in the T20 World Cup, Indian players continue to shine. The list released by ICC for the ‘Player of the Month’ award for the month of March is dominated by two star players from India. Sanju Samson and Jasprit Bumrah, who won the title for India with their brilliant play in the World Cup, have been nominated for this award. The third name in the list is that of South African young player Connor Esterhuizen.
Sanju did not get a chance in the playing eleven at the beginning of the World Cup, but he surprised the cricket world as soon as he came into the team from the Super 8 stage. The Super 8 match against West Indies was, in a way, a virtual quarter-final. In this, Sanju remained not out after scoring 97 runs and led the team to victory. After this, he scored 89-89 runs in both the semi-finals and final and was the top scorer of the team. In these three big matches, Sanju scored 275 runs at an average of 137.50 and strike rate of around 200. For this strong performance, he also received the ‘Player of the Tournament’ award.
If Sanju shone in batting, then Jasprit Bumrah wreaked havoc with the ball. Bumrah’s overs in the semi-finals and finals had changed the course of the match. In the title match, he took 4 wickets for just 15 runs and ensured India’s victory. Bumrah also received the ‘Man of the Match’ award in the final. He took a total of 7 wickets in the last three matches.
