Sahibzada Farhan – Steve Smith: What happened with Babar Azam in Australia’s T20 League Big Bash in January this year, something similar has now happened with Steve Smith in the Pakistan Super League. What Steve Smith did with Babar Azam in Big Bash, Pakistani batsman Sahibzada Farhan has done the same thing with Steve Smith in PSL. Now, it is not known whether Sahibzada did this intentionally or not, but it is definitely being called revenge on social media.
What happened to Babar, happened to Smith.
In PSL 2026, both Sahibzada Farhan and Steve Smith are part of the same team Multan Sultans, just like Smith and Babar Azam were seen playing for Sydney Sixers in Big Bash 2025-26. It is a coincidence that the same incident happened. Just as Steve Smith refused to take singles to Babar Azam during Big Bash, similarly Sahibzada Farhan refused to take singles to him in PSL.
Steve Smith scored 53 runs but what happened in between?
In PSL 2026, the match was played between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators on 5 April. In this match, Quetta team batted first and scored 166 runs in 20 overs. In reply, Multan Sultans won the match by chasing 167 runs in 17.3 overs. Steve Smith’s 53 runs played a big role in this. But. What happened to Smith during this inning became a topic of discussion.
Sahibzada refused to let Smith take a single
During the Multan Sultans innings, Sahibzada Farhan refused to take a single to Steve Smith in the second over of Abrar Ahmed. Fans are calling this incident with Steve Smith as revenge. He believes that Sahibzada Farhan has taken revenge for the insult meted out to Babar Azam in Australia.
Smith refused to take singles to Babar in Big Bash
Steve Smith had refused to take a single to Babar Azam during the chase of 190 runs in the Big Bash match played against Sydney Thunder in Australia in January this year. Babar Azam was enraged by Smith’s public denial. But there was a reason behind Smith doing so. Actually, Smith wanted to take advantage of the power surge.
“They’ve said no run to that.”

Power surge is a rule in the Big Bash, in which after the initial 4 over powerplay, the batting team can choose another powerplay of 2 overs any time after the 11th over of the innings. Babar Azam, who was playing slowly, was denied a single by Steve Smith on the last ball of the 11th over and chose the 12th over as powerplay, in which he scored a total of 30 runs. However, Babar Azam still looked angry.
