Janhvi Kapoor Reveals How She Dealt With Criticism After Mother Sridevi’s Death

Bollywood actress Janhvi Kapoor on Thursday paid a heartwarming tribute to her late mother, the legendary Sridevi. She took to her Instagram handle and shared a string of old family pictures.

“Happy Birthday Mumma every step with your name in my heart,” the actress wrote in her caption. Now, in a recent conversation, Kapoor talked about losing her mom and how she dealt with the ‘most difficult time of her life.’

Janhvi Kapoor On Mom Sridevi’s Sudden Demise

In a conversation with Raj Shamani, Janhvi recalled the time of mom Sridevi’s sudden death. She said losing her mother was the most difficult thing she had ever had to do, as it was very painful. “I was completely dependent; I never used to make decisions. I was dependent on her in matters like, what should I wear? What should I do? What is right? What is wrong? What is there? What is not there?” she said.


Further, she added how people’s opinions on her and her family’s reactions were judged and how they made her very negative. “I had to learn to make my own independent opinion. In such a time, when the world is trying to divide you into pieces. ‘Oh, look, she is smiling a little too much now;, she is very sad, she is not sad enough…” added the Dhadak actress.

Personal And Professional Front

Kapoor also shared that for her, Sridevi was, is and will always be her role model because ‘there is no one like her. The actress also talked about how Sridevi’s death affected Boney Kapoor and how he was never the same. “In our best days, we were a very happy, strong, positive family and the big reason for that was her.”

For the unversed, Sridevi died on February 24, 2018, at age 54 due to accidental drowning in her bathtub at the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai, where she was attending a wedding.

On the professional front, Janhvi Kapoor was recently seen in Shashank Khaitan’s Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari alongside Varun Dhawan, Sanya Malhotra and Rohit Saraf. She will be next seen in the Telugu film Peddi opposite Ram Charan. The film is set to be released on April 30, 2026. The makers of the film also unveiled a teaser featuring Janhvi’s BTS moments on the set. The actress is reportedly a part of Allu Arjun and Atlee’s film with Deepika Padukone, Rashmika Mandanna and Mrunal Thakur. Boney Kapoor also confirmed that he will be producing a film with his daughter in the lead.
