‘How can she have 3 passports?’: Congress targets Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife, CM hits back

New Delhi: Congress leader Pawan Khera ignited a political row by alleging that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife holds three passports, including multiple foreign passports.

Khera addressed a press conference in Delhi and claimed that the Congress party has proof that Biswa’s wife, Riniki Bhuyan Sarma, had multiple passports.

“We have documents showing that Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s wife Riniki Bhuyan Sarma holds three passports,” Khera said in the press conference.

Furthermore, Khera also alleged that Riniki has a UAE Golden Card, an Antigua and Barbuda passport, and an Egyptian passport.

“Two of these belong to Islamic countries, yet they continue to claim religious adherence publicly,” he added.

The Congress leader escalated the attack by making broader allegations against the CM and his wife that their names have been linked with land grabbing, misuse of temple funds, chit funds, and many more.

The Congress party shared all three passports of Sarma’s wife on social media, claiming that all three have not expired yet.

Assam Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi also took a dig at the CM and urged for further investigation. He called the CM an ’embarrassment’ and will have to answer the questions and pay for his crime.

Himanta Biswa Sarma hits back at Congress

The Assam chief minister confirmed that he and his wife will file a defamation case against Khera within 48 hours. Sarma said that these false claims are politically motivated, and it showed panic and frustration within the Congress party.

Sarma openly rejected all of Khera’s claims that his wife holds three passports. He stated, “I categorically reject every allegation made by him. These are malicious, fabricated, and politically motivated lies aimed at misleading the people of Assam.”

Khera will face the consequences for his remarks, he further said.
