Nepal Two Day Weekend Government Offices: Due to problem in petroleum supply amid Iran war, Nepal government has taken a big decision. Now government offices will be closed on both Saturday and Sunday and the new office timings will be from 9 am to 5 pm.
Nepal News: Due to the war related to Iran, petroleum supply is being affected globally and its effect is now visible on the countries of South Asia as well. In this series, Nepal government has taken a big decision and announced to implement two days weekly holiday for government offices. The government says that this step had to be taken due to shortage of petroleum products and interruption in supply.
Now both Saturday and Sunday are closed
Earlier in Nepal, government offices had weekly holiday only on Saturday. But under the new system, now government offices will remain closed on both Saturday and Sunday. Giving information, government spokesperson Sasmita Pokharel said that this decision has been taken due to problems in petroleum supply. The new system will be implemented from Monday.

Timings of government offices also changed
The government has not only changed the rules of holidays, but has also changed the working timings of government offices. Now government offices will remain open from 9 am to 5 pm. Earlier, government offices in Nepal used to function from 10 am to 5 pm. That means now work will start one hour earlier.
Schools and colleges will also remain closed for two days
The government has also made it clear that there will be holidays on both Saturday and Sunday in government offices and educational institutions. However, the new working timings of 9 am to 5 pm will be applicable only to government offices. Schools and colleges will function as per their separate academic schedule.
Huge increase in aviation fuel prices
The petroleum crisis has not only affected government work but also air travel. Government company Nepal Oil Corporation has drastically increased the prices of aviation fuel for international flights.
As per new rates:
- Prices for international flights originating from Kathmandu were increased by approximately 84.7%
- Nearly 116.2% increase in flights from Pokhara
- Increase by about 117.4% for flights from Bhairahawa
Effort to maintain supply from India
Nepal Oil Corporation said that this increase has been made so that payment can be made to India’s Indian Oil Corporation on time and there is no further disruption in fuel supply. Nepal imports a large part of its petroleum needs from India, so even a slight problem in the supply chain can become a big challenge for the country.
Government says – Necessary steps to handle the situation
The Nepal government says that this decision has been taken temporarily so that fuel consumption can be controlled and the available resources can be used better. Experts believe that if the global situation remains like this for a long time, then even tougher decisions may be seen in the future.
