Before the monsoon session, Congress MP Kiran Chamala targeted BJP and said that the government does not give the opposition a chance to speak in the House and runs the House only to serve its interests. He said that the attitude of BJP is completely different inside and outside the House.
Government does not listen to opposition: Congress
New Delhi [भारत]July 19 (ANI): Ahead of the monsoon session of Parliament, Congress MP Kiran Kumar Chamala on Sunday criticized the BJP-led government, accusing it of ignoring the voice of the opposition and running the House only for its own interests.
Responding to Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju’s appeal for cooperation, Chamala asserted that while top BJP leaders show a cooperative attitude in front of the media, the ground reality inside the House is completely different.
Chamala told ANI, “I want to tell Kiren Rijiju that we want the House to work constructively, through a democratic process. The BJP, especially in front of the media – whether it is the Prime Minister, the Home Minister, or the Parliamentary Affairs Minister – talks a lot of nice things.”
The Congress MP alleged that the ruling party abandons democratic dialogue as soon as the parliamentary session begins. Chamala further said, “However, during the sessions, they just want to impose their interests and run the House; they do not want to listen to the opposition parties.”
Tension was visible even in the all-party meeting
The comments come just after an important all-party meeting called by the government in the national capital to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses. The monsoon session of Parliament is set to begin tomorrow, and the opposition is preparing to corner the government on several legislative issues.
Earlier today, the Center held an all-party meeting a day before the start of the monsoon session of Parliament, seeking cooperation from political parties for the smooth functioning of both Houses and discussing the government’s legislative agenda.
Opposition parties staged a symbolic walkout from the all-party meeting called by the Centre. He protested against Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju inviting the National Citizens Party of India (NCPI) to attend the meeting. He returned after a few minutes to participate in the discussion.
The Lok Sabha Speaker has allowed separate sitting arrangements for the 20 rebel TMC MPs who have announced their merger with NCPI. (ANI)
