New Delhi: The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to improve the bilateral cricket relations between the two nations following the massive T20 World Cup 2026 controversy.
Earlier, the IPL chairman, Arun Dhumal, called pacer Mustafizur Rahman’s ouster from the league ‘unfortunate’. The BCB Director of Cricket Operations, Nazmul Abedin Fahim, said that they had recently sent an email to the Indian board and also stayed in contact with other boards globally.
“We maintain regular communication with various countries’ cricket boards. As part of that regular communication, we recently reached out to the Board of Control for Cricket in India via a letter, through an email, to communicate with them,” Nazmul Abedin Fahim told ANI.
BCB urges BCCI to explore further bilateral cricket ties
In the letter, the BCB also wrote that the Indian men’s team is scheduled to tour Bangladesh in September 2026, and the women’s team is also expected to travel for the series after that, further signalling an improvement in cricketing ties between the Asian neighbours.
“In the letter, we mentioned that the Indian national cricket team is scheduled to come to Bangladesh in September to play a series, and after that, our women’s team is supposed to go to India. We also included in the letter a request to explore any other possibilities for reciprocal cricket collaborations,” he added.
In January, the BCCI directed Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) to release Mustafizur Rahman from their IPL 2026 squad due to the escalating tensions between India and Bangladesh. After that, Bangladesh requested ICC to shift their T20 World Cup 2026 matches from India to Sri Lanka.
But the ICC rejected their request, and they decided to pull out of the tournament, with Scotland coming as their replacement. But following the election on February 12, the new Bangladesh government has taken major steps to improve relations with India.
