Late Wednesday night, a huge 60-feet swing broke while moving at the Bhainsha (Chait Barani) fair in Kushinagar, Uttar Pradesh, causing chaos and stampede. At least 30 people including women and children were injured in this accident. Eyewitnesses claimed that the swing was dangerously crowded with about 80 riders. Reportedly, it started making creaking noises only after completing two revolutions. Despite people raising noise, the operator reportedly decided to continue the ride.
Within moments, the horrifying scene was in front. The swing was dislodged from its base and fell heavily, throwing riders into the air and trapping many people beneath the twisted metal.

Rescue operations were immediately launched as police personnel and local people reached the spot. It took about an hour to rescue the trapped people. Six ambulances were deployed to rush the injured to nearby hospitals, while more than 10 seriously injured victims were referred to the District Medical College. The condition of two children still remains critical.
The Bhainsha fair, which is held every year on the banks of the Narayani river near the Durga temple during Chaitra Purnima, attracts huge crowds from eastern Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Nepal. Officials acknowledged that this year’s crowd was larger than expected.
Preliminary investigations point to gross negligence, revealing that the swing’s base was weak and poorly installed, rendering it incapable of supporting excessive loads.
