According to the police, the driver of the Maruti XL6 lost control of the vehicle and it plunged into the well located alongside the road. All 9 occupants of the vehicle died on the spot, they added. According to initial information, all the dead were from the Dargude family of Indore village.

Among the 6 children who lost their lives in the accident, was a 7-year-old girl, said officials. Among the dead were Sunil Dargude, his wife and their daughter. According to information available, the Dargude family was returning from a private coaching class’s social gathering, when the accident happened.

Initial reports said that the driver of the vehicle lost control over the vehicle, which caused it to plunge straight into the water-filled well. As soon as people of the area and the police got to know about the accident, they rushed to the spot for rescue work. The personnel from NDRF also reached the spot and immediately started rescue operations.

The rescue operation reportedly continued late into the night. The rescuers however faced difficulties due to a large crowd gathering at the accident spot. Their presence hampered the operations.

The Dindori police are investigating the matter. Efforts are also underway to find out the exact cause of the accident. Following the incident a pall of gloom descended over the entire Indore village, the native place of the victims.
