5 Indians among 12 injured as missile debris falls in Abu Dhabi after interception

New Delhi: At least 12 people were injured in Abu Dhabi after debris from Iranian missiles, intercepted by the United Arab Emirates air defence system, fell in the Ajban area on Friday, according to the UAE government.

In a statement posted on X, the Abu Dhabi Media Office said authorities are monitoring the situation and urged people not to circulate rumours or unverified information about the incident.

“As part of the ongoing follow-up to the previously reported incident in the Ajban area caused by falling debris following the successful interception by air defence systems, authorities confirm that the incident has resulted in minor to moderate injuries sustained by 6 individuals of Nepali nationality and 5 individuals of Indian nationality, and one major injury sustained by an individual of Nepali nationality,” the post read.

Injuries reported after interception

Officials said the injuries were caused by falling debris after the air defence system intercepted incoming Iranian missiles. The injured include five Indian nationals and six Nepali nationals. One Nepali national suffered serious injuries, while others sustained minor to moderate wounds.

A similar incident last month had led to the deaths of two Indian nationals. The Indian government had expressed grief and coordinated with UAE authorities to repatriate the bodies.

Habshan gas facility targeted

Earlier on the same day, UAE authorities confirmed that Iran had targeted the Habshan gas facility. The strike was intercepted successfully, and no injuries were reported.

However, operations at the facility were suspended as a precaution. Emergency response teams were deployed to the site to assess the situation and ensure safety.

The Habshan gas facility is operated by the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company and is among the largest gas processing complexes in the world. It consists of 14 processing units and can handle about 6.1 billion cubic feet of gas per day.

UAE response to Iran

The UAE government criticised Iran for targeting civilian infrastructure during the ongoing conflict involving the United States and Israel.

Authorities said that Iran has attacked civilian locations, including hotels, in the UAE since the conflict began. While Iran has issued apologies for some strikes, it has also stated that it will continue targeting American and Israeli assets and bases in the region.
