Viral Post: ₹1.24 Lakh Quarterly for Nursery? Gurugram Mom’s Fee Post Shocks Internet

A parent’s viral LinkedIn post showcasing a nursery school’s quarterly fee of Rs 1,24,780 has ignited a fierce debate about soaring childcare costs. The post, revealing an annual expense of nearly Rs 3.7 lakh, drew shocked reactions from social media users who contrasted it with their own past educational expenses.

Schooling is commonly viewed as a basic beginning point in a child’s life. However, for many parents today, the ‘starting point’ is becoming a financial milestone in and of itself. A viral image featuring childcare costs from a private school prompted a heated online discussion. For some families, what was once a simple step toward learning has become a serious budgetary exercise.

The conversation began when Pooja Setia, an HR expert and creator of The People Studio, posted a screenshot of her child’s nursery cost structure for the 2026-2027 academic year on LinkedIn. Because of the large number of fees displayed in the post, it soon went viral online.

The screenshot revealed a quarterly charge of Rs 1,24,780, payable in three installments over the academic year: July to September, October to December, and January to March, for a total of roughly Rs 3.7 lakh.

In response to the figure, the parent expressed amazement at how much early school expenditures have increased. Setia stated, “This screenshot is not a joke! It is the quarterly cost schedule for my child, who is entering nursery this year.” She also considered how the same money could be spent differently, even joking about long-term investment strategies.

How Did Social Media React?

When the message went viral, social media did what it does best: turned shock into stories, parallels, and a dash of comedy. Many people expressed shock when comparing today’s childcare prices to their whole educational experience.

A user commented, “In this one quarter’s fee, I completed my entire graduation and post-graduation and was still left with money to pursue an HTML course.”

Another user provided a similar comparison, emphasising how rapidly expenses have changed. The user stated, “I completed my education from nursery school to graduation in 17 years for less than one lakh. While I understand how things have evolved, this seems like loot. Without a doubt, many individuals are not having children.

Another commenter made a nostalgic comparison, pointing out how school tuition used to be nearly symbolic when compared to today’s levels. The user shared, “In my time, 50 students could have done their entire schooling in the quarterly fee. 200 was our quarterly fee which was later on increased to 800 and now assuming more.”

Parents who are presently handling school payments came in, describing how mounting prices influence their everyday decisions at home.
