Why is Galantika planted in summer?

According to religious texts, there is severe heat in the months of Vaishakh and Jyeshtha. It is believed that due to the Kalakoot poison in the neck of Lord Mahadev, his body temperature becomes very high in summer. To control this temperature, in the summer season, a Galantika is tied over the Shivling, due to which the stream of water keeps flowing continuously. Lord Shiva gets relief from this Jalabhishek.

Jalabhishek is performed from morning till evening

According to tradition, the process of Jalabhishek starts every day after Bhasma Aarti in Mahakal temple and continues till 5 pm. Because at this time the heat is maximum. This time, due to the greater month of Jyeshtha, Jalabhishek of Baba Mahakala will be done through Galantika for three consecutive months.
