Coldrif syrup mp ban: The news that came out from Chhindwara district in Madhya Pradesh has shook the entire state. The news of Coldrif and Nextro-DS (Nextro-DS) phlegm syrup caused death due to kidney failure of 9 innocent children due to kidney failure. After this tragic incident, CM Dr. Mohan Yadav has posted on Twitter/X and informed about the ban on these syrups all over Madhya Pradesh.
What is the whole matter?
This syrup was given to the children on the advice of the local doctor. But as soon as the condition of the children deteriorated, the state government formed three separate teams for immediate investigation. Now at the state level, the case is being investigated in depth by forming SIT (Special Investigation Team). CM Mohan Yadav wrote on X, “The death of children due to Coldrif Syrup in Chhindwara is extremely tragic. The sale of this syrup has been closed throughout the state. The culprits will not be spared at any cost.”

What were these syrup and where did the supply come from?
Coldrif Syrup and Nextro-DS Syrup are the products of Sri Sun Pharma Company at Kanchipuram. In Chhindwara, only three medical shops-Ayush Pharma, New Apna Pharma and Jain Medical and General Store were supplied. According to the information, Mahakaushal dealer Kataria Pharmaceutical had ordered 660 bottles of syrup, out of which 594 bottles were sent to Chhindwara and the remaining 66 bottles were kept in the dealer’s office.
Was the syrup safe for children?
In the year 2023, the Director General of Health Service (DGHS) sent a letter to all the states to warned that chlorpheniramine melite + pheenilephrine syrup should not be given to children under 4 years of age. Out of 9 children died in Chhindwara, 7 were 4 years or less, while 2 children were 5 years old.
Who is involved in the investigation?
The joint team of the state and the Center visited the spot. This includes:
- NCDC (National Disease Control Center)
- Niv (national virology institute)
- CDSCO (Central Drugs Standard Control Organization)
- Madhya Pradesh Public Health and Medical Education Department
- State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA)
Three teams are investigating at different levels. CDSCO Delhi’s team is investigating the manufacturing process. The team of Chennai and Chhindwara is present on the spot.
Did Coldrif die due to syrup?
Although this news is going to increase anxiety, experts say that the cause of death from any medicine cannot be said immediately. It is too early to say until the investigation report comes.
